SWIMMING WITH NEMO AND FINDING WALDO.

Finding Nemo - Waldo - Egypt - El Gouna - Red Sea - Midnight Blue Elephant - Annika Ziehen

A few weeks ago I was invited to Egypt. While I was planning to walk like an Egyptian and follow in the footsteps of my aunt who is convinced she was Cleopatra in a former life, there was none of this to be found in El Gouna where I stayed. Admittedly I was a little disappointed at first. That was until they strapped me on a wakeboard, fed me tiger prawns till I burst, and I went looking for little Nemo under the (red) sea. Can you find him?

I added the arrow because frankly I almost couldn’t find him even though I knew he was there. I must admit that I am not very tech-y. While my friends brought their Go Pro and other fanciness that works on and under the water, I went old school and got myself a disposable underwater camera.

In hindsight I wasn’t very happy with it as it was tricky to use and I swallowed a whole lot more very salty seawater than strictly necessary in the effort to take one decent selfie. And also the quality as you can see, or not see, considering how hard Nemo is hiding, isn’t very great. With that in mind I would love to hear your recommendations for underwater pictures – photo and video. Any suggestions for a device one doesn’t need to spend a fortune on in order to find Nemo a bit more easily?

  1. I’m pretty happy with Go Pro in general – e.g. this one was shot on a Hero3:

    but I know they’re pricy 😦

Cheaper alternative would be buying a second hand Go Pro or one of the older models (the GoPro2 was pretty decent) or get one of the waterproof mobile phone cases for a couple of Euros, such as:

Haven’t tried them myself but friends said it’s working out fine. Happy underwater-shooting!
